A word from the editor
Hello! Me again. How are you? No really, how are you?
Weird times we are living through at the moment. I hope that you and your loved ones are keeping well in every way. Our thoughts are with those with friends and family in Ukraine and the countries nearby who are providing valuable support.
Here at ECPT, we have held our first Open Night of 2022 and also our first Therapeutic Skills Practice Sunday, which you can read more about. We also have an update from our ED&I committee and news of some exciting new CPD, and a potential new placement opportunity.
The conference has taken a few steps forward and we look forward to sharing more details of that in due course.
In the meantime, get the 22nd October in your diary!
You know where we are if you need us.
Joanne – Admin and Business Support
We held our very first open night of 2022 on the 3rd March. We (virtually) welcomed a dozen or so new people to meet us and hear about our training. We are looking forward to receiving some applications to start in September very soon.
We will be holding an in-person Open Night in a few weeks’ time, so if you know someone who’s interested in joining our community, please look out for the announcement.
An Update From The Equalities, Diversities, and Inclusion Committee
You’ll all no doubt be aware that ECPT’s ethos is centred around embracing and engaging with difference of all kinds. This is why the organisation is so keen to ensure that the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee exists to champion difference. It is made up of students past and present and seeks the involvement of external members too. Our chair is Kay Durrant, who is supported by Shantelle, Chris, Stephen and Jo. We meet quarterly, and we now have our own email address. We felt this was important so that any students with issues have a direct route to our assistance if they feel there is a matter pertaining to EDI.
Contact us at : email@example.com
Elsewhere in the EDI world, as I write this, we are thinking ahead to two important dates in the March calendar.
1st March is Zero Discrimination Day. This is a day that celebrates the right of everyone to live a full and
productive life—and to live it with dignity. Zero Discrimination Day highlights how people can become informed about and promote inclusion, compassion, peace and, above all, a movement for change. In fact, it stands for just about everything our EDI Committee does!
31st March is International Trans Day of Visibility. This day is dedicated to recognising the resilience and
accomplishments of the transgender community. On this day, we celebrate the trans people amongst us, raise awareness about the struggles that they face, and advocate for more rights for them across the world.
We hope you all have a great March, and we’ll be back to update you soon.

Thank you to all those that came to one or more sessions of the year-long Psychotherapeutic Tools in Mental Health. Therapeutic Skills Sessions – Update
From Jo Gibson, ECPT graduate
On Sunday 27th February, we started the monthly therapeutic skills sessions at our Beverley Road centre. The session and was attended by six ECPT students from both weekend and weekday groups. For many of the students this was the first time they had visited the Beverley Road Centre, so it was great opportunity to show off the facilities here and make use of the therapy rooms.
We started in the morning with building confidence and using TA theory in sessions. We looked at the skills and qualities that make a good therapist and spent some time looking at the process individuals will go through when learning a new skill and the different stages of competence in the learning loop.
In the afternoon there was the opportunity for students to practice their therapeutic skills and try out some of the skills we discussed earlier in the day. I really enjoyed delivering the workshop and meeting some of the students who are currently studying at ECPT.
We got some great feedback and are looking forward to doing this more frequently. You can read more at: https://ellesmerecentre.co.uk/therapeutic-skills-practice-sundays/
Our next session is taking place on the 24th April at our Holderness Road centre and will follow a similar format.
