As we are approaching the end of the training year I can see the trainees managing the balance between the weariness of completing all their outstanding feedback sheets and final interviews and the buzz and excitement of completion and anticipation for the summer break. Although it’s a busy time of year for us all it’s a nice time to be around the centre and interacting with each other as people come to provide training, supervision and therapy or receive training, supervision and therapy. There is a nice atmosphere and whilst we miss Louise our center manager (and my wing commander) who has reduced her hours recently there is generally a good energy and atmosphere around the place.

I have just had an exciting day at the weekend when I attended one of the training days here. “what counts as relational” with Mellie Lewin. This was a day on explaining in depth what the relational TA is all about. Admittedly that would be a lot to fit into a day and Mellie didn’t let us down. She delivered an informative and accessible “meaty” day in her very open and honest training style. It was a real pleasure (and a bit of a luxury) to be sat as a group member and lapping up the nourishing experience of such rich material. Thank you Mellie you have ignited an interest not only in the relational model of TA but in developing my own style of training and delivery.

I will be spending some of my summer reviewing and updating the Ellesmere training programme. I can’t believe how much I continue to learn through the experience of being a trainer as well as a therapist and supervisor and I would like to thank my trainees, supervisees and clients for the valuable experiences we have shared. I continue to be mindful and respectful that without the commitment and investment of people using the Ellesmere we would not be as successful as we are in maintaining our ethos of community and accessibility.

We are having our summer day out on the 20th July 2013 to celebrate the achievements of our trainees and generally have some fun. What a lovely way to close the training year. Whilst we take a break from training until September The Ellesmere Centre will remain open and continue to function. Watch this space for information on future events. We have the new foundation year in TA training starting in September and a certificate in therapeutic work with children due to start in October.

We also have on the horizon – a certificate in CBT and mental health, training days on working creatively, being a supervisor and working in groups and a number of others. All dates to be confirmed. Please contact us to discuss any of these trainings.

At the end of July I will be flying off to Bratislava for a very cultured experience of my brothers wedding. I am really looking forward to celebrating this wonderful event with him and his family. I will also be using the opportunity to visit big cities like Vienna and Budapest which seems bizarre as they are just an hour or two away from where we are. Shortly after that I will be visiting my utopia of all places The Cairngorms in Scotland, which for those who know me will be aware that these mountains are my most special place in the world. They really feel like my spiritual home. This may have something to do with my previous experience of getting lost in the mountains and surviving a frightening but most enlightening adventure. We are determined to crack the Lairig Ghru eventually!

Whatever your plans for the summer I hope you enjoy the break.
