In the workplace or wherever, we have first aiders to treat physical health problems that arise so why not have them for mental health problems too? Awareness of the issues around poor mental health is increasing. At ECPT, we have long had an interest in all things mental health and we are established in delivering our own training programmes as well as those that are delivered to a set of agreed national and international standards.

What is Mental Health First Aid (Certified)?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a nationally recognised course that equips people to recognise the signs of mental health problems in others and to provide support. It won’t teach anyone how to be a therapist but will give people confidence to offer help to others and give them the information they need to prevent a potential crisis.

Mental Health First Aid skills are valuable in the workplace, in schools, in organisations of any size, or just for everyday life. The course includes workbooks and resources you can use and refer to to help others seek the help they need, whether it’s just a chat from you or being progressed to bigger mental health services.

How will becoming a Mental Health First Aider help?

The MHFA 2-day course will:

  • Give a deeper understanding of the issues that impact on and relate to people’s mental health
  • Teach practical skills that can be used every day, including being able to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and feel confident guiding people towards appropriate support
  • Independent research and evaluation shows that taking part in an MHFA course:
  • Raise awareness and mental health literacy
  • Reduce stigma around mental ill health
  • Boost knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues
  • Encourage people to start a conversation with a person who may be experiencing a mental health issue
  • Promote early intervention which enables recovery

MHFA won’t teach you how to be a therapist but you will be able to say you’re a Mental Health First Aider.

All attendees will receive a copy of the MHFA manual and workbook, which are both excellent support resources, When you have completed the course you will also receive a certificate to confirm that you are a trained Mental Health First Aider.
